Jerne Shapiro, MPH, lecturer in Epidemiology, was inducted into the local Beta Upsilon chapter of Delta Omega, the Honorary Society in Public Health, this spring. Shapiro is an alumna of the Florida Epidemic Intelligence Service and was a long-time adjunct faculty member in the college before joining the faculty full-time in 2019. She was the former Alachua County Epidemiologist and was the Alachua County Wellness Coordinator. She has contributed immensely to COVID-19 response efforts by leading contact tracing efforts at UF, linking students to opportunities in the health department, and teaching real world applications of epidemiology concepts.
