About Anna M McDaniel

Anna M. McDaniel assumed the role of fifth dean of the UF College of Nursing in July 2013 and stepped down in June 2023. Under McDaniel’s leadership, the College of Nursing saw tremendous growth and earned national and international recognition. Most notably, rankings rose for the Doctor of Nursing Practice and Bachelor of Science in Nursing degrees, and National Institutes of Health research funding increased twelvefold from 2014. McDaniel recruited many world-renowned clinicians and researchers, increasing faculty numbers by 50% in nine years. Dean McDaniel has had an accomplished career advancing nursing science and educating new nursing professionals. Dean McDaniel received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in nursing from Ball State University in Indiana and her PhD in Nursing Science from Indiana University. She completed a postdoctoral fellowship in medical informatics from Regenstrief Institute for Health Care. Dean McDaniel has served as a principal investigator or co-investigator on more than $34 million in research grants and contracts and has contributed to more than 120 scientific publications and presentations.

TEACHING

Dean McDaniel’s teaching responsibilities focus on mentoring graduate students in research and evidence-based practice projects.

RESEARCH

Dr. McDaniel’s research has been characterized by the innovative use of information technology to enhance decision-making by clinicians and to promote positive health behaviors in consumers. Her history of funded research focuses on cancer control, from prevention (tobacco prevention and cessation) through survivorship (symptom management).

SERVICE

In addition to her leadership as the Associate Vice-President for Academic-Practice Partnership at UFHealth Shands Hospital, Dean McDaniel serves as the chair of the Florida Association of Colleges of Nursing, as a reviewer for professional journals and scientific meetings, and as ad hoc member of NIH review panels in her areas of research expertise.
