National Public Health Week at the University of Florida featured UF HealthStreet’s first national forum, “Our Community, Our Health.” On April 9, this program brought together community members from nine CTSI locations throughout the country for a conversation with health researchers. Many of the sites began with a reception and a local update and then all joined in to the live-streaming presentations by experts from the University of Florida and Health Literacy Missouri on diabetes, high blood pressure and how to talk to health care providers. Participants were invited to discuss the studies through innovative text messaging software. Pre- and post-tests were conducted at locations with guests on-site which will yield valuable information on the content and the effectiveness of delivery. Additional events will be scheduled going forward, and more sites are expected to join.
