Research Interests: My research interests include substance abuse and the treatment of pain within the sickle cell population with an emphasis on prescription drug abuse and the use of novel therapeutic interventions to address their pain.
Long-term career goals: I would like to use my training from the NIDA T32 fellowship to further the understanding of the prescription drug abuse epidemic so that more effective preventative strategies can be designed, and to lessen the health disparities within the sickle cell population.
What philosophy guides your education? “Education means inspiring someone’s mind, not just filling their head.” – Katie Lusk
What do you see as the most pressing public health problems facing the world today? As a clinician, I find that many of the health related issues that I treat could have been avoided if preventative measures were taken earlier. I think if a larger emphasis were placed on preventative measures and ensuring individuals have access to preventative care, that a great deal of morbidity could be avoided.
