Research Interests: Psychiatric social work interventions for persons with schizophrenia and their family members with high expressed emotion. Psychosocial interventions for persons with mental illness and their caregivers living in poverty.
Long-term career goals: Develop a household-based intervention for alcohol dependence in the community to reduce number of drinks, domestic violence, and high expressed emotion in families. Develop information, education, and communication materials to promote mental well-being.
What philosophy guides your education? “Take up one idea. Make that one idea your life – think of it, dream of it, live on that idea. What do you see as the most pressing public health problems facing the world today? The most alarming public health issue worldwide is alcoholism. Besides physical harm, alcoholism is associated with several psychosocial adversities and consequences on the individual and family members. These adverse outcomes are preventable with timely alcohol use prevention and treament interventions.
