DVA HSR&D
Physician Post-Resident Fellowship Program in Health Service's Research.
Director R. Beyth, Co-Director E. Andresen 7/1/06 Established.
The Physician Post Resident Fellowship in Health Services Research and Development
(HSR&D) is an integral part of the Career Development Program in the
Rehabilitation Outcomes Research Center (RORC) located at the Gainesville
Division of North Florida/South Georgia Veterans Health System (NF/SGVHS).
The mission of the RORC is to enhance access, quality, and efficiency of
rehabilitation services for veterans with central nervous system (CNS) damage
through interdisciplinary research and dissemination activities. Despite
important efforts by researchers to measure functional outcomes using activities
of daily living at admission and discharge from inpatient rehabilitation
stays, major gaps exists. These gaps have a health services research focus
and include access to treatment, treatment effectiveness, determining the
optimal approach to organize and provide rehabilitation services, and the
mechanisms for incorporating scientific evidence into a rational program
for planning and evaluating new modes of rehablitation care. The RORC is
both a HSR&D and Rehabilitation Research Development (RR&D) Center
of Excellence. This unique combination of resources provides an unparalleled
platform to promote the overall goal of this proposed fellowship, which
is to enhance the health services research knowledge and skills of physicians
and increase the recruitment and retention of HRS&D researchers within
the Veterans Health Administration(VHA).
