Mattia Prosperi, MEng, PhD
Dr. Prosperi’s research interests are in the areas of biomedical modelling and ‘big data’ mining focused on precision medicine and translational science. Before moving to University of Florida as Preeminence hire, he was faculty at University of Manchester, UK. There, he became team leader in the 18Million GBP “Health e-Research Centre” funded by the MRC, a project combiing technology with big health data and modern research methods to improve health for patient and public benefit. Dr. Prosperi’s approach to big data analytics is layered and integrates multi-source data, such as demographic, environmental, clinical, genetic, sensor technology, and beyond. Presently, he leads his research group towards the development of original methods and applications for personalized medicine – exploiting machine learning from a rigorous statistical point of view – and the implementation of software with optimized usability. In addition to research, which is funded by federal agencies in US and EU (e.g. EC Horizon 2020 “Virogenesis”), he fosters Master and PhD studentships in order to create a specialized workforce that will enable the University to excel in the next-generation bioinformatics and big data science. He is organizer of the International Bioinformatics Workshop on Virus Evolution and Molecular Epidemiology and editor of BMC Medical Informatics and Decision Making. His publication record includes 80+ works in peer-reviewed international journals, with 25+ papers as first/senior author, including journals in the Nature publishing group, and book chapters.
