Research Interests: In 1977, Senator Hubert Humphrey delivered a speech during the dedication of the building which takes his name, the headquarters for the Department of Health and Human Services. He said “The moral test of government is how it treats those who are in the dawn of life, the children; those who are in the twilight of life, the aged; and those in the shadows of life, the sick, the needy and the handicapped.” I see this imperative as my own focus as I apply patient-centered and quality improvement principles to diminish social and health inequity.
Long-term career goals: I hope to conduct research that supports quality care and increases quality of life for individuals with chronic illnesses.
What philosophy guides your education: I’ve always found critical thought to be central.
