Apply to Epidemiology

Are you ready to apply to the Department of Epidemiology?

The application process and deadlines for our degree programs, such as the PhD in Epidemiology, Master of Science in Epidemiology, and Master of Public Health with a concentration in Epidemiology, vary based on the program. To apply for any of these programs, you must submit your application to both the UF Office of Admissions and the department and be accepted by both. If you are interested in the T32 training programs, you should apply for those simultaneously. Note: The Department of Epidemiology does not process any Master of Public Health: Epidemiology Concentration applications. Applicants interested in the MPH program should apply through the PHHP Master of Public Health website.

Application Review Process

All applicants to the PhD in Epidemiology and Master of Science in Epidemiology programs are reviewed by the Office of Admissions and by an admissions committee within the Department of Epidemiology. International applicants undergo additional review by the international team at the Office of Admissions.

Please Note: Applicants to the Master of Public Health, Epidemiology Concentration are reviewed by the PHHP Master of Public Health program. The Department of Epidemiology does not process any MPH applications.

Steps to Apply

Step 1: Apply Online

  • Start by using the UF Online Application for Graduate Admissions. Make sure to input the following information accurately for your application to be processed by the Department of Epidemiology:
    • Location of Intended Program: Main Campus – Gainesville
    • College: Public Health and Health Professions
    • Degree: Epidemiology
    • Select either Doctor of Philosophy or Master of Science based on your preference.

Step 2: Transcripts Upload and Test Scores

  • Upload official transcripts for each previous degree. Unofficial transcripts are accepted until the official ones arrive, expediting your application processing at the Office of Admissions.
  • International applicants should ensure that documents not originally in English are accompanied by a literal English translation.
  • If applicable, arrange to have official English proficiency examination scores sent directly from the testing agency.

Official TOEFL scores should be sent to the University of Florida (code 5812). Electronic transcripts (via Parchment, National Student Clearinghouse, or eScrip) should be sent to te@admissions.ufl.edu. The Department of Epidemiology doesn’t track submissions to the Office of Admissions. Check your application status on the portal. Step 3: Additional Questions Section

  • In this section, upload the following documents:
  • Statement of Purpose: A professional statement aligning with the program’s philosophy and focus. Ph.D. applicants, list at least two faculty members in your research area of interest.
  • Resume: Upload a current curriculum vitae (CV).
  • Other Upload: If applicable, include your unofficial English proficiency examination scores.

Step 4: Recommendation Letter

  • Input contact information for three recommenders. The online application will automatically request letters of recommendation. Ensure at least two are from academic references.
  • All letters of recommendation must be submitted on letterhead and include the recommender’s signature.

Step 5: Application Fee

  • Pay the non-refundable application fee of $30, plus a $7 credit card processing fee. This fee is mandatory for all certificate program applicants and can only be paid online by credit card.
