Two epidemiology graduates make headlines

A group led by Dr. Chris Delcher, a former doctoral student in epidemiology, is fighting prescription drug abuse by making a statewide database more useful for physicians.

Dr. Taj Azarian’s research found that a historic variant of the deadly Vibrio cholerae O1 strain has likely been present in Haitian aquatic environments for several hundred years and has the potential to become virulent through gene transfer with a strain introduced by UN peacekeepers. Dr. Azarian is a postdoctoral fellow at the Harvard School of Public Health and a former doctoral student in epidemiology.
