On April 19, the Institute of Aging held a symposium highlighting research in aging.

HealthStreet presented a summary analysis of the top self-reported health conditions among 71 individuals aged 60 and over.

Arthritis and hypertension were found to be the most commonly self-reported condition among this population, while back pain was one of the top three most self-reported health conditions among respondents, regardless of age.Furthermore, evidence suggests disparities may exist between individuals based on race and gender, which should be examined in future studies.

HealthStreet represents an important venue for describing the real-time self-reported health conditions of underserved and underrepresented populations within Alachua County, and hopes to better inform future studies of the medical needs and concerns of the community.
